Life University was founded in 1974 by Sid E.
. In 1973 while serving as a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos WF. 22 students attended the first classes in January 1975. Kumuyi started a Bible study group with 15 university students who had come to him requesting training in the Scriptures.
Kumuyi was a former Anglican who joined the Apostolic Faith Church after being baptised. The school was established on the site of a placer gold mine next to Southern Technical Institute later Southern Polytechnic State University and now Kennesaw State University - Marietta Campus.
